Dear colleagues
The end of the calendar year, which is often associated with taking stock, is slowly approaching. Last year, it resonated strongly among students that the university had increased the fees paid for extending their studies. The money collected in this way is deposited into the scholarship fund, from which it is distributed as scholarships.
In our faculty, in previous years, we have paid out more than has come into the fund, which has led to the need to save. This is now a thing of the past, and this year, on the contrary, we can pay out more scholarships. In concrete numbers, it looks like this:
One of the most significant expenses of the scholarship fund is the awarding of merit scholarships. In 2024, CZK 1.69 million was spent in this manner, and this year, the amount is expected to increase by 34% to CZK 2.27 million. Scholarships intended to reward learners who create e-learning support will increase even further. Last year, the amount was 310 thousand CZK. This year, it will exceed CZK 750,000. The amount for support to travel to foreign conferences has been permanently increased for the second consecutive year. This has increased from less than 400,000 in 2023 to 821,000 by 2024. This year, this amount will at least be maintained.
More pleasing is that the good condition of the scholarship fund allows new types of scholarships to be paid. Thus, a new scholarship was paid this year to our faculty to support students involved in program councils. The amount is not yet staggering (approximately 150,000 CZK in total). After a long time, scholarships for publication will be paid again. However, not according to the original parameters, but quite reasonably for each publication marked in the IS MU as a student publication, using the point value assigned to different types of publications in the budgeting rules of our faculty. Last but not least, from this year onwards, scholarships will be available to support internships for doctoral students at the Project Support Office, enabling them to become more familiar with the issues of project submission.
