Dear colleagues,
At the end of November, we entered the Advent season. On Sunday, we lit the first candle, and on Monday, we found an envelope in the Academic Senate's mailbox. In the upcoming dean election for the 2026–2030 term, senators will consider only one candidate. The current dean, Irena Radová has decided to run for re-election with a slightly modified team. Our wait for the outcome will be a little longer than Advent, as the faculty senate will not meet for the first round of voting until January 5. However, I would like to invite you to a faculty-wide meeting on December 15 at 2:00 PM in the auditorium of the Faculty of Arts MU, where you will have the opportunity to ask the candidate questions.
As the end of the year approaches, we typically take stock of the past year, but we remain in anticipation of what is to come. I want to invite you to express your interest in the debate. On this occasion, the wording of the Faculty of Arts MU Statute is often recalled: "The dean is the highest representative of the Faculty of Arts and acts and decides on behalf of MU in matters concerning the Faculty of Arts. He or she is accountable to the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts and the rector of MU." That is why we should not be indifferent to who is running for this position and what program they are proposing. The dean is accountable to the Academic Senate, which represents the academic community. However, by electing its representatives, the academic community does not relinquish its responsibility for faculty affairs. On the contrary, it should remain active and thus bear its share of responsibility. After all, in a year and a day, we will once again have elections to the Academic Senate.
Wishing you a peaceful Advent season
